Two tournaments starting August 9, 2011

The way thing are supposed to work is pretty simple. People who live in Oakington, or already regularly play in Oakington will probably carry on playing at the White Horse. People who live in or nearer to Longstanton will probably play at the Black Bull.

Good question my poker playing pal. Basically, I want to get poker tournaments running in several pubs, preferably all within cycling distance or at least within range of the new guided bus. This would mean I could organise monthly team games, probably on Saturday nights, between rival pubs.

It's been suggested that everyone will end up playing at the Black Bull instead of the White Horse, but hang on a minute. In the Summer of 2009, while the White Horse was closed, we played poker at the Black Bull who looked after us very well, but as soon as the White Horse reopened there was a loud cry to move the games back to 'our village'. Apart from village loyalty, there were practical aspects such as not being able to drink due to having to drive, and the chance of being stopped on the airfield road, so that not's what I'm expecting to happen.

I dare say that some people who aren't bothered about league points, (particularly those don't have many), will play some games in one venue and some in another, but I would be surprised if many people who currently regularly play in Oakington end up regularly playing somewhere else.

I like our poker nights, but I can't really afford the time to commit more than one week night per week. Tuesdays are also a night that most pubs could probably do with a small boost in numbers. Darts leagues play on Mondays in the winter, Pétanque on Wednesdays in the Summer, Thursday night is quiz night in the White Horse, and probably other places too, and we'd probably be in the way on a Friday night.

I'll be playing at the Black Bull for at least the first view weeks. If it attracts enough players I'll probably alternate between the two venues - at least until I find a 3rd venue...

Cheers,

Mat.
